Jay on the Drums is a dynamic session drummer/live percussionist currently living in Boulder, CO. Though his travels have taken him from the windy city of Chicago to the golden sunlight of Southern California; Jay has maintained an electric presence in whatever musical act he works with. From early beginnings in the midwest opening for such acts as The Plain White T’s, Lucky Boys Confusion and Kill Hannah to more recent ventures providing live percussion for DJ’s and Djembe for yoga classes at Riff’s Acoustic Music in La Jolla, CA and Om Time Yoga in Boulder; Jay continues to expand his horizons in pursuit of “Musicology”.
Cropped 3crease collageJay began playing drums at fifteen years old when long time friend ‘Schmed’ simply asked him to do it. He had no intention of ever playing the drums, but when his father insisted he would pay for the lessons if he committed, Jay felt compelled. He spent four years learning under David Jennings in suburban Chicago. Soon after this he formed the band 3crease with ‘Schmed’ and mutual friend ‘Cheech’ to soon take over the small town of Oswego, IL. They headlined the town’s battle of the bands three summers in a row and have now become the stuff of local legend.
Cropped AP CollageHis next group was called A.P. or Absolutely Perfect with the ideology that ‘Perfection’ was truly in the eye of the beholder and that you yourself, were in fact – Perfect. The band toured extensively through out the Midwest and released three full length albums receiving mainstream Chicago radio air play from 2005 until their end in 2010.

Beginning in 2013 Jay began working with Boulder, CO singing sensation Zozo Jackie. Though only 11 years old, Zozo Jackie keeps company in the veins of the soul driven vocals of Adele, Pat Benatar, and Bonnie Raitt as well as writing and producing songs of her own. Zozo Jackie understudies with voice instruction from Fatima Lily, producing her signature sound with tangible depth.
