A New Awakening began in 2012, when the members of a couple different bands from the Maryland music scene got together to form the band. Andrew Patterson (vocals), David Wadsworth (guitar), and Peter Otis (drums), who had all been in the band together, joined with Taylor Herring (bass/cleans) and Wesley Hackelton (guitar) to create the Christian influenced metal band, A New Awakening.
The band slowly gained some recognition around the area, playing shows in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and released their first full length, Death To A Dream, in late 2012, before deciding to take a break for a short while after playing Ice Jam 2013 on Feb. 1st.
After a hiatus of about 9 months, the band decided to start up again. Unfortunately, Peter had to bow out due to becoming a full time missionary with his wife. So, the search was on for a new drummer and, after a few temporary drummers, the band was introduced to Ben Evans, an excellent drummer, whose talents were able to take the band's music to the next level.
The band has continued to play shows ever since, including the Maryland date of the 2014 Vans Warped Tour.
A New Awakening released an EP at the end of August 2014, and is currently working on writing their sophomore full length.
