Hailing from Long Island, NY, saxophonist and composer James Barry has been active in the music scene since 2000. James has toured extensively throughout the United States and the globe, having shared the stage with artists: Kurt Elling, Kirk Whalum, Delfeayo Marsalis, Irvin Mayfield, Byron Stripling, Gerald Clayton, Marcus Gilmore, Trombone Shorty, Bonerama, Jim Snidero, Jamil Sharif, Matt Wilson, Dave Koz, among many others. Prior to moving to Denver in 2011, James performed in orchestras aboard Celebrity and Royal Caribbean ships in North America, Central America, South America, and Europe. From 2006 through 2010, James served in the United States Marine Corps. Sgt Barry was both staff arranger and saxophonist in the Marine Band of New Orleans. His compositions were performed across the United States and Mozambique, receiving national television exposure.
James has studied saxophone with Ralph Lalama, Steve Wilson, Dave Pietro, Javon Jackson, Gary Keller, Tyler Keubler, and most recently Art Bouton. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Purchase College and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Jazz Composition at the University of Denver
