2012 and 2013 were banner years for Hard Sunday. The band won 100.1 WKQQ's Decent Exposure Contest, beating out 48 competitors in the longest running major Radio competition in the country. Hard Sunday gained Major Attention, and was asked to open the Lexington Show for Rock Icon, and TV star, Bret Michaels in June. Three weeks later, the band opened for Legendary 70's and 80's performer Lita Ford. July saw the release of Hard Sunday's self titled debut CD, and was the first Regional Band to do a prime time on air interview, and have their first released single, "When You Say Goodbye", played over the airwaves of 100.1 WKQQ in over a decade for any regional act.
Hard Sunday was formed in 2003 by former Bassist Glen Van Dell and Lead Guitarist Wild Bill Tussey. Founding members, Van Dell, and Tussey described the early beginnings of the Richmond, KY. quintet as, "a blues side project". The lineup was changed many times over the next several years, and was almost completely overhauled in 2007 adding Lead Singer Bobby Ward, and now former Guitarist Nikky Tyler, expanding the original four piece lineup to the then, current five member group. Current Percussionist Sean Pixley was added a year later in 2008. The unique blend of Hard Sunday's musical roots lies within the diverse members of the band. With a wide array of influence, Hard Sunday has become a premier, must see, classic style Rock band. Guitarist Wild Bill Tussey's mixture of Blues based Rock favorites such as AC DC, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Outlaw Country brings a certain brash and raw flavor, which is unmatched by any. Lead Vocalist, Bobby Ward's 80's influences include Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, and other great performers of the decade, and always adds a bit of Flair and stage presence that guarantees a visual experience show after show. Bassist, Scotty Vandura brings a lead guitar mentality to the four string instrument while adding color, and texture to the low end of the sound. Adding to the group in 2014 Guitarist Skyler Parks brings a classical and technical edge to the group while Percussionist Sean Pixley solidifies the foundation and impeccable timing of the group with pure energy and raw talent. 2014 promises to be a rebirth and reaffirmation of Hard Sunday's Top Ranking Rock Band of the Region as they were invited to open up for multi-platinum Rock group Jackyl in Lexington, KY.
Hard Sunday's Ten year history has wowed audiences, not only in their "home base" of Central Kentucky, but also in National venues throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Tennessee, and Chicago, Illinois. Hard Sunday always brings Top Notch Professionalism to the stage wherever they perform. Whether it's coverage of 70's and 80's classics, or Original concert style sets, Hard Sunday delivers unmatched entertainment and wins Rock Fans over, wherever they appear.
