Matt Owen and The Eclectic Tuba lets go of all preconceived notions of the tuba and has rapidly gained popularity throughout the tuba world with its unique sound, jamming grooves, tasty solos, and its innovative incorporation of electronics and digital effects. Since kicking off the project in January of 2012, Matt has toured extensively across the East Coast and returns regularly to Manhattan to fill NY with the sweet tuba sounds that it deserves. In May of 2012, Sonicbids hosted a competition called “The Road to Bonnaroo” in which fans could vote for their favorite to play at the wildly popular music festival. Out of 1,100 bands that entered the competition, Matt and his tuba came in 3rd place. This year alone, Matt has shared the stage with many large-scale acts, both opening for, and performing with three bands from the new Flaming Lips remake of "In The Court of The Crimson King", Linear Downfall, Stardeath and the White Dwarfs, and HOTT MT. Other bands that Matt has performed with include Maps and Atlases, That Handsome Devil, Amanda Palmer, Fishbone, The Polyphonic Spree, and Opposite Box.
The band consists of four touring members. Matt Owen on tuba, synthesizers, loops, and effects, Reuben Rodriguez on world percussion. Junior Williams on drums, and Sigourney Chicken on bass guitar. Together, these four talented musicians bring driving dances grooves and psychedelic space tuba funk to the masses that will have any audience dancing their pants off.
