Born Jay Philpot, the Queens, NY native was surrounded by the music bug at an early age as the son of legendary saxophonist Jack Philpot (who has played with such music greats as Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and The Isley Brothers), Jay laid the foundation for his music career as a child by learning and playing the trombone.
In the late 70's, a new wave of music came around, it was called Hip Hop and Jay traded his trombone for a pair of turntables & became “DJ Cut Creator.” Cut and his neighborhood friends formed a crew and began throwing block parties. At one of his parties, he met a skinny kid who called himself “LL Cool J;” they clicked right away and the rest is history.
For more than 25 years as a Deejay, Jay was voted one of the top 25 Hip Hop DJ's of all time by "Newsweek" magazine. Cut Creator is a legendary icon in the Hip Hop Industry, and as the right hand for one of Hip Hop's mega stars LL Cool J who also coined the famous phrase ... "WHAT'S MY DJ'S NAME...CUT CREATOR" which became one of rap’s best known lyrics of all time on the "Rock the Bells" single.
Cut Creator is not only LL's D.J., Hypeman, and Musical Director, he is also an actor, radio personality & programmer, and mixer & producer.
Cut and LL launched and completed many world tours together and appeared in films like the movie classic "Krush Groove.". LL Cool J wrote a tribute song for DJ Cut Creator called "Go Cut Creator Go" which gained a huge buzz and was number three on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart and number six on the U.K charts. They performed on numerous television shows such as "The BET Music Awards", "The MTV & VH1 Video Music Awards", "The Soul Train Music Awards", "The Source Awards", "The Grammys", "The American Music Awards", "Saturday Night Live", "106 & Park", "David Letterman", "Jimmy Kimmel Live", "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and many, many more.
When Cut Creator isn't touring worldwide with LL, he is traveling state-to-state and country-to-country performing at clubs, venues and on celebrity tours. He has also made numerous guest appearances on various television, radio and hosting shows throughout the U.S, Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Asia.
In addition to his success, DJ Cut Creator made a name for himself on the radio working at several radio stations such as WNHC with Doc Wynter; thrilled fans in Toronto, Canada as the host of the energy 108 roadshow; brought the heat to Tampa at WLLD then added power to KRWP in Houston, TX and controlled The Beat at KXBT in Austin. Cut Creator has won several awards including a Houston A.I.R. Award for the best radio mixer on KRWP Power 97.5 and many DJ Competitions including the World DJ-3 Mixing Championships.
This veteran entertainer has been able to re-invent himself & has proven he still has the desire and skills to win. With many tours, albums and magazines to mention and more television appearances than any other hip hop DJ in history, DJ Cut Creator and LL Cool J are still touring and still have the longest, most successful music careers in history.
