Heavy Chevy delivers solid funk complete with groovy bass, sassy horns, and cosmic synth lines. Skape Zilla [keys, samples] and Luke Zollinger [bass] met in 2004 and have been making music together since, including an 8-year stint producing for notable and up-and-coming rap and pop artists. Bored of trendy, predictable music, they discovered old-school funk was the special sauce in their favorite hip-hop albums, the sound was an obvious starting point.
In 2011 the duo cut a few demos, Zilla called up friends Mike, Radley, and Tony and within months they were making bodies move at venues in their home-base of Atlanta. Since, the crew has grown to a seven-piece stocked with talent. In addition to the founders they are Mike Applebaum [keys, trumpet], Radley Fricker [drums], Travis Cottle [trombone, guitar], Tony James [percussion], and Michelle Marshall [keys, vocals]. Each member brings their own vibe to the funk that makes Heavy Chevy distinct, and keeps the sound fresh.
Heavy Chevy has shared stages with Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics, and many more. Heavy Chevy has been working with Rotating Souls Records on their debut album vinyl release, Black Light. They pulled in several Grammy award-winners for the cause, including Producer Graham Marsh [Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars], Engineer Ralph Cacciurri [Alicia Keys, Outkast], and Mastering Engineer John Horesco [Lecrae, B.O.B.]. You can find Heavy Chevy cruising the South, playing shows and getting down with their bad selves.
