Chris Lee’s story sounds like a country song waiting to be written. Born in the Central California town of Visalia, Chris discovered music at an early age. Near the same fertile fields that shaped the sounds of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, Chris learned the craft of songwriting and how to tell a story through song.
“I started playing in church when I was 12. It was there that Chris had a life changing moment that led him to pursue his dream full force. An influential Christian evangelist pulled Chris aside and told him, “Not only will you pluck the strings on your guitar, but you will pluck the strings of people’s hearts through music.” That was all he needed to hear.
Chris began leading youth worship groups in church. He wrote and performed songs about faith, about life and about the struggles people face to make it through each day. “I believe music speaks to the heart better than any words,” Chris says. He wrote about love and relationships, ups and downs, faith and hardship. These songs would prove to be a source of strength for Chris in the coming years.
During his high school years, Chris found himself becoming the victim of a nasty group of high school bullies. But instead of allowing himself to become a victim, he fought back, physically and through music. He found renewed strength in his faith and his determination to make something of himself in the music world. “If it weren’t for music, I would have had no escape from the troubles I had in school,” Chris said. “I feel like music distinguished me from a town where sports were everything.”
In the spring of 2012 at the age of 20, Chris packed everything he owned in his beat up old Saturn and moved to Nashville. In no time, he had networked his way through the usually cutthroat business of music and began working with producer and music industry veteran, Dean Miller. By the fall of 2012, Chris had completed his first EP of original music with a world class group of musicians and engineers.
What does the future hold for this talented and likable artist? “My goal is to just be a good example and tell a good story with a good message to a generation who has been blinded by worldly views.”
Wow! Those are pretty lofty goals for a now 21-year old singer and songwriter. But if anyone has the power and conviction to accomplish those dreams, it’s Chris Lee. All you have to do is listen to the music. It’s all right there.
