Lorraine García-Nakata / Bio

I write, compose, sing, and play the guitar about how we live, how we engage each other, how to let go, and get out of our own way. I navigate between disciplines–music, visual art, and writing. As a kid, I knew I'd be an artist. There was no question about it and probably the only thing in my life that was clear. Singing and drawing were important for me and like a friend or parent, information was handed over to me when I’d enter the creative “zone.” If you are reading this, you probably know about that place. Once finding it, I held on.

I continue to do the work of rediscovering who I am as a musician. Since 1974, I have been a “pilot” and member of world-renowned Chicano artist collective, Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF)–a historic California-based collective that includes Latino artists of every artistic discipline.
