Called "virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone" by the New York Times and "Remarkable" by the Wall Street Journal, identical twins Peter and Will Anderson have distinguished themselves as top-level jazz players and composers in New York City. Influenced by Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, and Sonny Rollins, "they play with a passion, unpredictability and sense of discovery" (All About Jazz). At age 13, they toured the U.K., playing traditional jazz and swing music. During high school they were recognized by DownBeat Magazine, the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, and participated in Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Program. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, they were first mentored by saxophonist Paul Carr, before attending Juilliard in New York City.
Peter and Will Anderson have played with Wynton Marsalis' Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy Heath Big Band, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Michael Feinstein, Paul Simon, and Liza Minelli. They've have performed at Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, Birdland and as featured artists at the Buck Hill Skytop Festival, Stony Brook and Michigan State Universities. They have produced two highly-acclaimed off-broadway jazz shows at 59E59 Theaters in 2010 and 2012, honoring Artie Shaw and the Dorsey brothers, the last of which was sold out for 4 weeks. Peter and Will are featured in HBO's Boardwalk Empire and on the Grammy-winning soundtrack with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, with whom they frequently perform. They can be heard every Thursday night at 59E59 Theaters E:Bar in Manhattan.
The Anderson's debut recording, Correspondence (Smalls Records), features Kenny Barron, Kenny Washington, and Ben Wolfe, consisting of original music and jazz standards. The CD release party is at Smalls Jazz Club on March 30th, 2013. On March 14th, 2013 the Anderson's are leading a Highlights in Jazz concert featuring Wycliffe Gordon, Warren Vache, and Howard Alden.
