This duo act combines the old with the new. Arranging old standards such as Cole Porter’s “Night and Day” as well as incorporating the old jazz sounds into their very own originals. Alyssa Ferri’s Vocal lines combine the sweetness of Doris Day and soul of Billie Holiday. She sings clearly, with a full high range and distinct low notes. Her range flows with a flurry of musical prowess provided by Jack Wellington on his loop pedal and six string bass. With his unique style, soul and intense professionalism, together they give great entertainment and are bringing jazz back with a modern swing. While normally a duo act, Alyssa and Jack are capable of playing with just about anyone.
After a shy musical experience in her younger years, Alyssa started classically training in at St. Clair County Community College as a lead Soprano. While attending SC4, she was mentored and given private instruction by Lillian Maley (MA). There Alyssa was a part of the SC4 choir and Music Club which greatly helped her grow as a vocalist and musician. Along with singing classical pieces, Alyssa started studying and performing Jazz her sophomore year. Since then she has dedicated her time to singing and reviving Jazz in the Port Huron and Blue Water area by becoming Secretary of the Blue Water Jazz Society and playing in the Jazz duo, Fifth Avenue. Alyssa is was the awarded Best New Artist at the 2013 Blue Water Music Awards and for 2014 she is nominated for Best Female Performer. Fifth Avenue also have a shared second year nomination for Best Non-Rock in the area.
Jack E. Wellington III
While being a music lover his whole life, Jack didn’t start playing music until his junior year of high school. From then on, Jack has been a part of many musical projects in the community and at St. Clair County Community College. While attending SC4, a main focus was put forth into taking as many music classes as possible. Starting on the four string, then five, the six string bass has drastically changed his musical style by allowing him to create and play full arrangements of many Jazz and original compositions. By also adding a loop pedal to the mix, Jack has achieved many musical feats that have gained him recognition in the Port Huron and Blue Water Area.
Alyssa’s Vocal influences are as such; Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Etta James, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe.
Alyssa’s Lyric Influence are; Cole Porter, Nina Simone, Melody Gardot, Rogers and Hart.
Jack’s Bass and musical influences are; Victor Wooten, Mike Dimlin, Marcus Miller and Michael Manring.
Both are influenced by the tones from the 1920’s to modern day Jazz artists. Cole Porter has become a mutual staple when learning different Jazz tunes and writing original music.
