Chris Baron / Bio

Hello, thanks for stopping by. Over the past 2 decades, I have lived in the Great state of Oregon. I have handed many theses to professors. I have chopped many vegetables. Also, I have collaborated in ten very different musical projects, finished about twenty recording projects, and hopped on stages around the pacific northwest.

As of this writing, approaching August 2015, I am interested in reviving a new, old, project called The Baron Ward. My latest studio album is called Light Up The Sky (summer 2014). I recorded and released a live album: "Live @ the White Eagle", in October 2014. By 2016, I hope to help record the first ever official Baron Ward album.

If you'd like to delve into the past, search for me on CDBABY.com, I-tunes, or Amazon.com. If you'd like to Read more (words are fun!), you can visit www.Searchlightsinmexico.com (as long as the website is up!). In the meantime, the tracks that you can stream on the main page of this site (to the right, to the right...) will be commented on below.
"Barstools" - this track was recorded by Cameron Jack and I back in 2009. There are other studio versions of this song, and it has been performed by Disorderly Conduct, Searchlights, and A Crab's Life at many live shows over the years. However, I included this recording on Light Up The Sky (2014 studio album) because I just.plain.love.it. Its a sad song, and is currently not played live very often, but this recording will live forever. Cheers to Cameron Jack, engineer extraordinaire! on that fateful day!
"Soul, Collisions & Signs" - also known as "The Friend Song", this is a simple acoustic piece that I've always felt very protective of. It was originally drafted as "a song Willie Nelson might cover", down in South Texas with my dear friend William Downing (RIP, May 2011)...but since has become something that I feel is my own. This is a solo, acoustic version...I am plotting an official studio version featuring a string quartet, for the near future. Take a listen, you'll hear that too.
"When Will You Come Back?" - this is my home studio demo version of this song. Here I am experimenting with making my own drum samples and building beats. This song probably needs to be recorded by a live band...and soon.
"Tall Firs Brew" - This is from my Live @ White Eagle album (Portland Oregon, October 2014). The live engineer was Chris Heinzelmann, still the resident sound man at White Eagle (as well as other spots around town), and I mixed/leveled it a bit at home before self-producing the album for giveaway. The tune is dedicated to ALL my friends down in Eugene (you know who you are!!), but most especially Matt & Holly.
"A Star Can't Even Break Through" - The lyrics to this one came first, as I was jamming with my friend Al Silveira and his new band at the time up in Vancouver WA. We never followed through with the whole being-bandmates idea, and I felt strongly about what I was singing about at the time, so I came up with some music of my own to back these lyrics up. This is my home studio version. A version with a live band comes next...
"She Calls My Name (Forever)" - this is the Huge Sally version. The album version (self-titled, 2012). The featured band is Searchlights, or: Joe Bass and Dusty Beats. It was recorded by Ryan Ferris at his studio in NE Portland OR, and we mixed it: he and I. Of course, what makes this recording for me is the dark and smokey guest vocals and lead guitar by Jake Riggs. The accompanying video (buried in the "Video" section of this page) was shot at Macadam's Bar & Grill in SW Portland OR in August 2012. Huge Sally Lives...we hit our Decade Mark in 2016! This audio version is NOT on the Light Up The Sky album...BUT...another version is. So THERE.
Thank you for checking out my solo page! My collaborative stuff is probably interesting too. To find out about those, use your favorite search engine to seek out: Huge Sally (folk'n blues); A Crab's Life (nautical alternative rock); Idiot SCIENCE (funk-metal); The Tummybuckles (sweet folk-rock); or any NEWEST SIDE PROJECT as I announce underground shows on this website or www.searchlightsinmexico.com.
