So we are here to bring to you that connection, that small desirable description of what we all strive for. That ultimate feeling to be heard and to be remembered. MERCURY SHOT only asks the universe, the galaxy, the planet, you the star children out there to join us on this intergalactic ride.
This is MERCURY SHOT's story
Sonny James the lead guitarist and vocalist of the group was born and raised in East Los Angeles. Sonny found interests from a wide range in great music. Blues, Jazz, Metal, Progressive, alternative Rock n Roll as well movie scores and soundtracks. In the late 90s and early 2000s, Sonny played in bands that typically had no edge, focus or just wanted to stay in the garage. But Sonny wanted more out of the music. So he sought out to build his own band and image.
Somewhere around 2003, Sonny was given some inspiration that ultimately would become the core scope of MERCURY SHOT. MERCURY SHOT's origin came from an idea on paper. A drawing done by Sonny's father.
The MERCURY SHOT drawing depicted an epic interstellar rock band led by a star hero named Sanz Mercury. The concept and alter ego was there, but the idea didn't come to fluition until late 2004, where Sonny began recording on a little 4 track recorder.
During 2004 -2007, Sonny wrote and performed all of the martial on his own under a few band names. Yet something was missing, and what was missing was that full force energy of a live band. Around 2007 Sonny ran into an old friend from high school who was also looking for a band to play with.
Lalaine a charismatic and creative musician who was raised in East Los Angeles like Sonny. Lalaine saw that Sonny had a new inspiring way of creating and expressing music. So that following year Lalaine became the bands official rhythm guitarist and co-writer. Sonny and Lalaine also agreed on that of the band name as the interstellar rock band MERCURY SHOT.
Upon the offical band name, Sonny decided to go by the alter ego stage name of Sanz MERCURY.
During the next 9 years, the band auditioned numerous drummers and bass players, but nine of them fit the style of the bands mind set.
In the summer of 2015 Sonny know going by his stage name Sanz Mercury put an add out for a bass player on facebook. A few players answered but weren't right or we're inexperienced. A month later Sanz received a message from a friend he hadn't seen or heard from for almost 15 years. Sergio Ramirez or Serg to his friends and family was a rough, in your face metalhead drummer that played with a few well know bands throughout Los angeles. Serg still playing with a band wanted to a change and picked up the bass again. After a few jams with Sanz and Lalaine, the duo knew that Serg would fit into the MERCURY SHOT lineup.
MERCURY SHOT was almost complete, know all they needed was a drummer.
The band went through numerous drummers throughout the year of 2013 and early 2015. But in August of 2015, Serg mentioned that he might know a potential drummer. Sanz and Lalaine agreed to meet the potential drummer.
Albert Ruiz also know as Beto was a native to Los Angeles. Alberto or Beto was currently playing in a band that he felt was not going anywhere. So Serg asked if Beto would sit in on a couple of rehearsals to see if he liked what MERCURY SHOT had to offer.
MERCURY SHOT jammed out with Beto and found that he had a style of drumming that was different from the previous drummers.
So on August 19, 2016 Beto was made the official drummer for the band.
