When Mark Van Doren, the American poet and teacher, wrote his famous work, "Our Lady Peace" in 1943, he couldn't have imagined the concept of rock'n'roll, let alone that a Canadian rock group would adopt his title for their name. Consisting of Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, and Steve Mazur, Our Lady Peace is one of the most successful bands in Canada today. The band has sold over 5 million albums worldwide, won four JUNO Awards and ten Much Music Video Awards - one of the most MMVA's ever awarded to any artist or group. In 2009 the band has released their seventh studio release, titled Burn Burn to critical accolades and has been certified Gold in Canada. The band’s new single “Won’t Turn Back” is taken from a forthcoming as yet untitled album and is one of the most ebullient recordings of the band's career. The song was delivered to radio stations across Canada on Friday July 18th, and is available for purchase at iTunes here.
Our Lady Peace front man Raine Maida said of the song " ‘Won't Turn Back’ is an attempt to balance earnestness and fun. We worked with Mike Elizondo (Dre, Eminem, Regina Spektor) to help keep the track rhythmically simple and infectious. It's a triumph for us personally. Elizondo really helped push our sound. He gave it ‘hips.’”
A release date has not been set for the new Our Lady Peace album, but fans can see the band at select dates across Canada this summer.
