Thirty years ago St. Louis, MO band Witch Doctor would have been dubbed heavy metal giants. In today's musical landscape hard rock* will have to do, however.....with an asterisk; *riff heavy, throwback rock with occasional swampy-punk overtones that walks a tightrope between all that is hard and all that has popular appeal. What you get is: Witch Doctor rock & roll. Combine that recipe with a live show that strikes quick and holds you down with VOLUME and ENERGY which in turn fuels the vocal and stage bravado of a live-wire frontman.........and a genre is born.
Trail blazed by guitarist Chris Walker in March 2012, Witch Doctor make the claim that they'll "put rock & roll on their backs and carry it across the finish line". Their influences cover the spectrum of greats including Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Guns and Roses, Motorhead.....and so on. Walker, former LoFreq drummer Ted Magos, enigmatic vocalist Pat Oldani and bassist Mark Janes deliver a neo-classic vibe coupled with razor sharp songwriting that should stand the test of time.
A full length, debut album was released in May of 2015 and the single, One Life, featured in Classic Rock Magazine's annual compilation CD of Live Wire up and comers.
