Pat Nichols plays the blues from the delta and beyond. These are roots blues from the heart. He brings the authentic and modern versions of music from the 20's and 30's that shaped the modern blues. The sounds of the Delta, Memphis, Texas and the Piedmont come to life at the hands of this talented fingerpicker. The music is played as the originals were, on acoustic guitar with thumb and fingers, and on National Steel Guitar with slide.
Pat Nichols has been playing acoustic blues music since he was a teenager. After forays into bluegrass fiddle, mandolin and guitar and electric Texas blues he returns to his blues roots with a fresh perspective. Add to that his vast knowledge of the time, the artists, and the recordings and you will find these songs come alive. He previously performed in a duo with Lee McBee, joined at different times by Kansas City's all star bassist Pat Recob and Jimmie Meade harmonicat from Leeve Town.
The show features music from the vintage delta masters, Son House, Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, the urban blues of Blind Willie McTell and Lonnie Johnson and the ragtime blues of Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Blake, and Blind Boy Fuller. He shares stories of how the music came about and provides a sense of the artist, the song and the time and place. Always entertaining, sometimes educational and frequently irreverent, his delta blues show can open the hearts and minds of its listeners.
