The Fontaine Classic formed when guitarist Tyler Mehlhaff (25) and drummer Frank Roehr (28) began playing as a 2 piece in the spring of 2009. The duo quickly developed an original set list of dynamic soul indie-rock, and played a well-received house party circuit in Northern California. After graduating with a degree in music, Mehlhaff moved to Memphis, TN where he formed ‘The Oldest Profession,’ later moving the project to Portland, Oregon in 2011.
At this point The Fontaine Classic went dormant but not dead. Occasional ideas were bounced cross-country between Roehr and Mehlhaff, (The Warm Front EP and Hot Spring SuperMoon) but not until a November 2011 did a recording session in NW Portland prove to be worthwhile. The bands dual ribbon mic to tape recording process produced a warm lo-fi vintage sound that was fitting for the thematic intrigue featured on ‘Latest Faith,’ the bands debut LP.
As of August 2012, Roehr has relocated to Portland, OR and the band is scheduling a record release concert series starting in late September.
