KIERA OSMENT - BIO
Kiera Osment, who hales from Devon has been compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Lana Del Rey, Tori Amos and Natalie Merchant. Honest, Soulful and Heartfelt.
Recent quote from Demos Uk:
“A Musician whose complete commitment to improving and searching deep in herself cannot help but have a unique voice and understanding. When you listen to Kiera’s music you get the feeling that it is the very fabric of herself, without Artifice and full of Art.”
Born in 2000 and home educated, Kiera from a young age has had a passion for music. That may have come from being blasted anything from Toms Waits to Abba onto her mothers stomach when she was in the womb. Apparently this was the only time she would move! She was drawn to the piano early on in her life. Given her first keyboard at six, then went on to learn classical piano at nine. At this time other instruments started to capture her interest, which included the guitar and cello. Songwriting is her greatest joy, drawing on many experiences from life and her great interest in reading to write poignant songs and haunting ballads. The strength and emotion of Kiera’s voice came to a surprise to her and her family. Singing wasn’t something Kiera set out to do, but the written songs had to be sung. Her voice is now a very important part of her music and fits the jigsaw puzzle nicely.
Quotes from the press:
North Devon Journal: “Kiera is endowed with a honey soaked voice that startles and sparkles in equal measure – a proficient pianist and guitarist to boot”
Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition: “Osment’s work stands up against that of older artists”
Jamie Harper, SoundCheck: “Pick of the bunch is Kiera Osment whose haunting piano and bewitching voice are utterly captivating. Pensive poignant songs that will wrench your heart.”
In recent times Kiera has supported Clare Teal, Eleanor McEvoy and Edwina Hayes, Kast Off Kinks and Kevin Mark Trail. In 2013 she was on the longlist for Glastonburys Emerging talent completion and won best vocalist at the Song Academy Song Competition in London.
Kiera is very driven and likes to play live as much as she can. She is often seen dragging her parents around from venue to festival. She has played at The Bedford and The Troubadour in London, The Fleece in Bristol. Locally, The Plough Arts Centre, Queens Theatre, South Devon Arts Centre as well as many pubs, clubs, hotels and restaurants throughout the Southwest. She has also played at many Festivals including Brisfest in 2013, Maker Festival, Cornwall Folk Festival, Tiverton Balloon And Music Festival and The Llama Festival. This year she is looking forward to Supporting Kast Off Kinks again, playing at The Godney Gathering, Watchet Music Festival and other smaller festivals.
