Chiccy Baritone / Bio

Who is Chiccy Baritone?
Not content with being the last in line… “Chiccy Baritone” has strategically moved her way to the front of the line where she maintains a strong presence. Introduced to the poetry circuit in 2001 and affectionately named, “Chiccy Baritone”, by her best friend, Charlene Evans lives up to the full meaning of her stage name. Chic, well-put together (spiritually and emotionally), she is a woman who uses her deep alto voice to share the issues of life and some personal stories in poetry form with much authority!

Her work can best be described as spiritually ground, filled with real
life situations and God-filled solutions. Chiccy Baritone uses her past, present and spirit to reach all genres of people providing listeners with inspiration, hope and encouragement.

Residing in Greenville, SC, Charlene still considers her birth place, Columbia, SC, home. Awarded a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from South Carolina State University, Charlene moved to the Upstate to begin her journey into adulthood. Working in Corporate America, Charlene uses her experience, skills and voice to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ! Since her entrance onto the poetry stage, Charlene has received a great deal of attention. After the release of her first CD in 2004 titled,” Next In Line”, Charlene was featured on the front page of the Lifestyle Section of the Greenville News in the August 2, 2004 edition. In a follow-up article, she was featured in a Greenville Magazine article, titled “Young, Gifted and Black -16 African Americans changing the face of Greenville”. Her alma mater, South Carolina State University, soon after, featured her in the 2004-2005 Winter Edition of the SCSU Review in an article titled, “Distinguished Alumni Under 40” and also being named “Best Newcomer Poet of 2005” by the Las Vegas Poets Society in Las Vegas, NV. Other recognition and events from
poetry includes: The cover of the March/April 2007 Edition of IMARA Woman Magazine, 2009 article in the G Magazine March 2009 in article titled, “Saved By The Written Word”, August 2011 Talk Greenville Magazine article titled, “Extreme Hobbies”, One of many opening acts for Michelle Obama at the Women’s Conference at Brookland Baptist May 07 in Columbia, SC, Creator/Producer of an all woman poetry showcase called, “R U Skooled? From A Woman’s Perspective-Poetically” featuring some of the most amazing poets locally and worldwide and performing her original works for video projects for the “Rock the River Tour” with Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, NC in July 2009!

Currently on the table, Charlene is “serving up” large portions of “Self – Expression, World – Outreach and People- Progression through community service, ministry involvement and varies projects. There are no limits when it comes to reaching people with poetry which explains the diversity in venues/events Charlene has performed for over the years like: Clubs, Churches,Weddings, Funerals,

CD Projects (other local artist such as Catina Rosemond, Toney Robinson,
Katrina Spigner – author of devotional CD),
Classrooms and varies Youth and Women Conferences just to name a few. Also in the works is the recording of her sophomore project titled, “Wildflower” which is scheduled for release in 2012.

This is only the beginning to where God is extending the use of his word in the vessel of Charlene
Evans. Her prayer is to speak words of LIFE and not death that will take root in your soul and spirit LIVING long after she has left the stage. “Poetry is LIFE, chiccy baritone speaks LIFE, and what is life or chiccy without POETRY?”

Peace & Blessings,
Charlene Evans aka “Chiccy Baritone” www.chiccybaritone.com
