Over The Effect is an alternative rock band from Atlanta GA. Their sound is a blend of 90s era alt rock meets 70s psychedelic prog. Some of our collective favorite bands/influences include: Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Tool, HUM, and Sunny Day Real Estate.
The band brings together a unique blend of talents. Atlanta native Ashley Barker (vocals and guitars) has played in several bands and as an acoustic solo performer and is a song writing machine. Aaron Kamphuis (bassist and engineer) is a professionally trained audio engineer and life long music student. Rob Nouryeh (drums and percussion) has played in several Atlanta bands in the past, and brings and excellent sense of timing and intricate rhythm to the band. Their live shows blend their original music with the occasional re-interpretations of well known covers. With a catalog of nearly 40 original songs, the band has played shows that went as long as four hours. In the first two years, the band recorded 7 quickly self produced EPs.
Fourteen of these original songs have been re-recorded from the ground up for their first proper full length album "Astronomy", which the band spent nearly 9 months working on. The album is a continuous 66 minute long spectrum of sounds, from the seemingly happy post punk riffs set against melancholy lyrics of "Screaming Inside", to the juxtaposition of density and emptiness in "Astronaut", the jangly crunch of "Little John", the tribal rhythms of "Comfort and Lies", the uplifting riffs and anthemic chorus of "Sunshine", to six minute epic album closer "Silver Screen", which builds from acoustic guitars and strings to a full on rock band meltdown madness.
