Maia Pillot, the band leader, songwriter, singer, and rhythm guitarist for the band, is a native Manhattanite, yet people are always asking her if she’s a Midwesterner. Must be something about her overall relaxed demeanor and general kindness that radiates from the inside-out. While four years living in Iowa may have had something to do with it, it’s simply who she is.
Maia’s music fluidly combines her street-smart New York edge with personal accessibility. Her songs reflect universal journeys through life’s passages that transcend age, gender, or background, while always having a positive and hopeful perspective.
Earlier this year, Maia brought together the four Pilots - Carey Clayton, Luke Markham, Andrew Grau, and Andrew Parsegian - to create the dynamic folk-pop-rock sound that is uniquely Maia & The Pilots. At their live shows, Maia’s keen social observations and stand-up bits flow in between songs, making for an awesome mix of music and comedy that is both original and fun to experience. If you combined Joni Mitchell, Sam Cook, Feist, and Louis C.K., you'd get Maia & The Pilots.
