Looped jigs and reels and rocking acoustic folk that bring a uniquely Celtic twist to the term One Man Band.
Michael Mullen's Trio Of One is a multi-faceted solo show, combining blistering Celtic folk with an underlying rock energy that always catches the crowd's attention. Utilizing the performance approach called "live looping" to maximize his impact as a solo musician, when performing as the Trio Michael is not just a solo musician but rather he is a musical hydra with many heads and arms. Whether he is performing exhilirating Scottish fiddle tunes, rambunctious Irish drinking songs, a selection from his eclectic mix of classic rock and country songs that he performs in his own inimitable way, or perhaps memorable originals, or stretching even further out with jazz or anything else that might cross his mind--Michael's musicianship and energy drive the music forward like race horses being chased by a formula car.
Michael has been known as a high-energy fiddler for years and has received much praise from critics and audiences. He has attracted a following in his own right as a dynamic performer both of traditional fiddle music and in less doctrinaire musical settings. He has musically and professionally matured into one of the leading Celtic violinists. From rousing rock shows to cultivated white-shirt affairs, Michael has made a career out of playing fiddle as support for others, and he has been a valuable asset for several bands over the decades. But these days, Michael uses his talents and technology to be both the band and the main attraction. Michael is a master of the fiddle, but also he performs guitar, octave mandolin, cittern, percussion, and both backup and lead vocals. These days Michael is the leading West Coast exponent of the use of a performance approach called "live looping" with Celtic fiddle music. Sometimes there will be so much happening all at once that you would swear there must be three musicians onstage, but in fact Michael is up there by himself. Michael is The Trio Of One.
