Gina Lee / Bio

GINA LEE
Gina Lee has been singing since she was a little girl, taking her first turn in front of an audience at the age of 6. She grew up singing solo and as part of groups in church and school. Picking up the guitar in her teens, she started writing songs and made her professional debut in 1979 as a singer and rhythm guitar player in a rock-n-roll band in Bismarck, ND. In the early 80s she was the lead singer and played bass keyboard and guitar in a country band in the Tacoma, WA area. In 1988 she moved with her small son to Duluth where she kept playing and writing music, mostly in private, while performing an occasional gig and focusing on her day job as an accountant. In 2003 she released her first album “Simply Imperfect” and in January 2014 she released her second album “A Soft Place to Land.” For the past few years she has been performing regularly in the Duluth and surrounding areas at such places as RT Quinlan’s, Lighthouse at Emily’s, GB Schneider’s, Bent Paddle, Amazing Grace, Beaner’s, and various assisted living homes, to name a few. She performs as a one-woman band, recording herself all the different parts on her Roland keyboard and playing her acoustic 12-string guitar. Her style is an eclectic mix of folk, rock and country with powerful vocals that appeal to all ages. You can visit her website at www.ginalee.bandvista.com.

Duluth Homegrown Music writes: In 1979 Terry Bradshaw quarterbacked the Steelers, the Knack just released “My Sharona,” The Muppet Movie, played at the drive-in, and Duluth’s original folk maiden Gina Lee began her professional music career. For the next decade, she gigged in rock and country outfits, and then things like family and work took precedent. Now she’s back playing regular solo shows at Quinlan’s, Beaner’s, and Amazing Grace, to name a few. Her powerful vocals haven’t aged a day. Her 12-string guitar sounds as bright as ever, and while her songwriting has matured, her subject matter remains light and optimistic.
