Jas Mercer, began teaching himself to play the guitar several years ago. It was about that time when he also began performing his new instrument; singing and playing in front of large and small audiences. Jas holds a BMU in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Utah's School of Music, where he studied privately under Jazz Guitar Professors, Geoffrey Miller, and Keven Johansen. Through the study of Jazz, Mercer has gained a solid understanding of the instrument he loves to play.
In the Summer of 2010, Jas toured with country/pop singer Anna Kaelin, playing lead guitar. Anna is a former American Idol contestant (season eight), and was asked to support former Nashville Star contestant Charley Jenkins on his summer tour as his opening act! From 2006 to 2009, Jas performed with international recording artist Alex Boyé, touring all over the United States and abroad to countries such as Jamaica and other parts of the world. From 2005-2006, Jas performed as a solo, singer/songwriter artist, playing the fair circuits as well as local restaurants such as Gepetto's and the Atlantic Cafe in Salt Lake City. From 2002-2005, Jas played rhythm guitar for country/pop duo Jamie and Tanill, touring all over the state of Utah. Jas has also appeared as a solo artist and as a member of other bands on three of the four major television stations in Utah.
Born and raised in Southern California, Jas comes from a show business family including film and television actors and Vaudeville entertainers, the Mercer Brothers; recording artist and radio personality Brad Mercer; Recording Artist Sue Lynn (Mercer); Jazz and Country entertainer Russ Mercer; and film actress Betty McCabe. In addition to being a professional musician himself, and working as a guitar teacher, Jas Mercer has appeared in lead and supporting roles in professional theatre and musical theatre productions, and holds a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in theater and film.
