Edwin Morais Jr ( J-Slimz) got his first Stratocaster at age 9 and doesnt ever remember not having it pass through his mind since. The first guitarist he really tripped out to was Carlos Santana, Super Natural album. It was summer time, Slimz can remember feeling like he was floating, everything was ok while music was bleeding out of his dads custom Chevy Tahoe.
High School came, young Edwin was into Punk, MXPX, NOFX were some of the daily selections playing on his cd player. Actually Slimz first day of High School, he was so into music he would bring all his albums to campus so he could listen to them through out the day. It was gym class and as soon as he got back to his locker all his things were on the ground and cds gone! So punk took a back seat for a awhile, Slimz began to get into Indie music and more guitar driven music. In 2007 Edwin Jr. played on the Monterey Pop stage with his high school Jazz class. Buddy guy was set to go on later in the day. Slimz saw his equipment back stage and literally stared at it until he went on for his set.
Edwin JR (J-Slimz) in His own words:
It was the end of the Seaside High school year and my grandmother calls me. "Josie do you like Dj'ing?" Im like yeah. That sparked her idea of me making a living with turn tables. I nearly went insane practicing and using my equipment. Everyday would be wake up, laying around for a few hours. Get something to eat, and practice mixing electro/hip hop/rock music. Before that I would be playing guitar all day every day, my uncle gave me a Tascam Porta 02 MK II. One of the best things I ever got in my life to this day! I recorded myself all the time, It was around high school and I just didn't jell with where everyone else's head was at at the time. So I made music in my garage that to this day I can still hear in my playing. The feeling of something being manifested and playing a part in it all is just a wonderful feeling. When i was younger I thought to myself...."Can everyone hear this?!"
I was so happy just doing that I fell into a bit of an obsession. I didnt want to go to school, didnt want to party with my friends. All I want to do is make music...here is my art!
