2010 was the Banjo year for Years of Dust. It was the year that Thomas (lead singer & songwriter) and Henrik (songwriter & producer) were playing around in their studio with some old songs of theirs. Out of nowhere came this "shot in the dark" - a riff played on a banjo. At first the two friends laughed it off but the intense and haunting sound of the riff kept coming back and it ended up playing (no pun intended) a major part in one of their songs.
Yeas of Dust started out as a studio project. Both Thomas and Henrik had loads and loads of songs just lying around not being used. From the very beginning the ambitions were to build up their own universe of music that would grab their own hearts, satisfy their own ears - yet still be very recognizable but at the same time difficult to PUT IN A BOX.
Thomas & Henrik explains:
"We were very focused on bringing acoustic instruments into our songs during recordings because we wanted our music, our songs, our lyrics to bring the listener back to the early days of rock and roots music - simplicity and honesty were the keys.
The unique sound that is now associated with Years of Dust is mainly dusty and insisting but at the same time fragile and porous.
We like to capture and maintain that specific moment of sadness, hope and love in the sound of our music and give every single song that special feeling that each and every one of us can relate to".
After a year of writing and recording Thomas & Henrik found Emil (drums) and Bent (Bass) and Years of Dust was formed.
Years of Dust has their own distinct sense of place - a place that's worth visiting again and again.
