Gillum began his percussive career at the age of 15 playing in his hometown for The Genuine Junk Band, lead by his brother Nathan Gillum. While continuing his musical studies, Gillum played for a faculty jazz ensemble, backing musicians such as Greg Abate, Sarah Caswell, and Ralph Bowen.
Despite Gillum's small town charm, he was led to the big city by his love for improvisational music. Studying under Adam Cruz and John Patitucci, Gillum was encouraged to follow his pursuit for experimental music.
Gillum currently resides in Nashville, working closely with his brother/guitar extraordinaire Nathan Gillum, collaborating with regional musicians, and pursuing studio work.
