I was born in Bakersfield, California 9-12-61 and I hit the ground dirt poor and sick as a dog for about the first 2 years of my life. My mother told me when I was old enough to understand just what the doctor told her about my chances in life...That I would never walk upright and would also be severely retarded my whole life. This fine Maricopa County doctor told her and I quote... "She should let me put the poor little bastard out of his misery." I grew up hungry ALL the time especially after my father left my mom and us boys when I was still in diapers...I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN BEING HUNGRY...My mother remarried in 1964 and my stepdad raised me listening to Hank Williams Sr. , Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. I am proud to have been raised by my stepfather Boyd Eugene Mayhugh , one of the finest men I've ever known.I had the privilege and honor of playing music at my Grandpa's funeral in 2006 and in 2010 my Stepfather's funeral services because they both told my sister Melody that "Jimmy better bring his guitar down to play!" In October 1981 I learned how to play guitar using my cousin Gary's guitar and a Roy Clark how to book (I only used the chord chart) . When I had three chords and I could strum half decent I wrote " You Had To Lie". Three decades of my life have been spent playing music and I LOVE IT! I have been musically active here in Sacramento since April of 2002 when I played my FIRST open mic at The True Love Cafe , the first 3 performers that night were Richard March , Sherman Baker & James Finch Jr.!!! ALL 3 inspired me to be a better performer and musician! It's AWESOME to see the music scene in Sacramento still thriving and active! I always come back to country music when I am at an impasse in writing songs. I have included songs on the songlist here from almost every decade that I've been a musician , I just added "Battered Roses" which I wrote the lyrics for back in 1981 BEFORE I became a musician! I love singing the old school country and gospel music that I grew up with and featured in the movie "O' brother , Where art thou" ... EVERYTHING that I am has been played out in the music I have had the privilege to write and sing...My children ROCK my world and inspire me to see the light through the blackest night. I am proud that my two daughters are picking up musical instruments and exploring this AWESOME world that I love so much and will NEVER stop exploring! THANK YOU the fan of music for listening and leaving comments because it's FOR YOU that I play in the first place.
