From his early musical beginnings, singer/songwriter C.R. Smith, formerly known as "Christopher King," has spent his musical career absorbing various musical influences and experiences, even at a young age, taking in the constant stream of music on his parents' radio and playing with whatever he could get his hands on musically, culminating in music that spans various genres. At 14, he discovered the guitar and found a way to bring the worlds he was creating in his head to life, cutting his teeth playing Stevie Ray Vaughan, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, BB King, and Guns n' Roses. After studying at The Berklee School of Music in Boston, King returned to his home in New Jersey and started a metal band, Morning Star, in 2005. Since then, King has honed his abilities playing throughout the tri-state area in bands of various genres, currently playing with the band Sylvana Joyce and the Moment as the guitarist.
Smith's music was born in basement riffs and etched in weathered notebooks. It is a music that searches for its day in the sun, and the content reflects that. With characters and situations that deal with issues of life, love, hate, the joy of success, and the weight of sin, King spares no expense in creating a world both sonic and literal, seeking to bring them to life in his recordings and live performances.
