Derek is a songwriter, an a cappella arranger, piano composer, and currently works with the local band/musical group, When Karma was King. His first musical composition, The Journey, was written in 2005. Having enjoyed the opportunity to write his first song, he took his talent to the next level and decided to start working on other pieces. Since then Derek has written over 13 pieces.
Derek is also an arranger for his Alma mater's pop co-ed a cappella group, having arranged over 20 songs for them. He has also produced and engineered their first album, 'Half Past Two'. The album consists of one original song, 'The Wait', co-written by Derek and the local band, 'When Karma was King'.
Some of Derek's influences are Billy Joel, Collective Soul, Goo Goo Dolls, Michael W. Smith, Jim Brickman, James Horner, and Rockapella.
