Devon used to tease Tess that her ukuleles were "toys" and she set out to prove him wrong. Combining her life-long love of roots, rockabilly and traditional country, Tess growls out some serious vocals and dares you to tell her that a uke can't rock. Devon, formerly of Central Valley staples The Refuzniks, was a natural choice to play guitar. It certainly didn't hurt that Tess and Devon have been married for 12 years. The chemistry is still in full force and seeing the two on stage together it's evident. Lance Martinez, long time friend of the couple, has been playing upright bass since he was a teenager. Without Lance, Tess would still be playing open mics and inundating herself with self-depriciation. Not only is Lance a wonderful and talented bassist, he also brings to the group his sense of humor and never-ending supply of pomade. While their former drummer, Matty Olivares, changed the way they played by leaps and bounds, life and times called him away and Steve Manson (formerly of The Refuzniks) joined the band. Steve brings an enthusiasm and positivity uncommon in drummers. Having worked with Steve while in The Refuzniks, Tess and Devon may also be referred to as his "handlers". The Honey Shots, as a group, strive to show their audience a good time and generally have a good time themselves. Followed by Sugar-free Rockstars, beer, or other adult beverages. The four are fast being recognized as a force to reckon with and have their sights set high.
