A progressive metal band inspired by the shapes and sounds of nature.
In 2011, Paul Swick (rhythm/lead guitar) and Trevor Driggs (drums) formed Cicada from a previous project, Truth In Lies. Paul, a seasoned sound tech Alliance Audio, has had his hands in numerous local projects, ranging in several diverse genres throughout the last decade. Trevor has played with multiple bands from Albuquerque and Buffalo, NY. His roots come from a thrashing punk-rock background that he transitioned and adapted into a progressive style. Joey Jaramillo (lead/rhythm guitarist) was the 3rd member that joined in late 2012 from a background of a few different projects like Flight of Miranda as well as his performing and composing his own orchestral and electronic influenced pieces. Jacob Schutt (bass/vocals) came to the band after being a vocalist in late spring of 2013 when a previous projects, Becoming Relics and Rawrr! disbanded after recording their EP. Jacob transitioned to bass for Cicada, after primarily playing guitar and doing vocals for other bands in the south-eastern part of the New Mexico.
The name was influenced by the entrancing sounds that come from the insects and desert creatures in the trees and surrounding landscapes. It is a distinct aura that portrays the environment in which we derived from. We want to have that same effect on people. Bring them through multiple stages of sound and diverse styles while still clinching to the roots. Find that new horizon.
