Maralen Alizabeth Pennyfeather, a singer/songwriter was born on April 5, 1988. She grew up in Moore, Oklahoma as an only child surrounded by music. Maralen’s parents sang gospel music in the church where she began singing at the young age of two. She began performing at every school talent show, church fine arts, and any other local event in her home town. Growing up having her mother as a licensed beautician, maralen was also very talented at doing hair and went to school where she later received her Hair Braiding License.
In 2010, she married Leon Pennyfeather an active duty member in the Untied States Air Force. She has 2 step daughters age 12 and 11 and a son age 4 with her husband. Soon after marriage her husband received orders to Yokota Air base in Japan, where they were stationed for 3 years. During her time in the Japan, she performed at the local club on base and multiple venues in Tokyo. She performed for Sony Japan Entertainment Group, and also opened up for Bobby Valentino (Bobby V) during his Asia tour. In addition, Maralen has modeled for a high fashion Japanese Clothing Line “World Wide Famous” which was published in two Japanese catalogs in Tokyo.
In 2013, upon leaving Japan, Maralen released her first album “With Love” on iTunes and Amazon. Trying to bring the essence of Hip Hop back her tracks like “Hip Hop” caught everyones attention with her addictive flow. Arriving to the United States her songs “Hip Hop, You Know, and Move On” were getting constant spins in local clubs along with being featured on local radio stations StreetZ 101.1 & Power 103.5.
In 2014, Maralen and her husband moved to Wichita, Kansas. During their year there she was asked to perform many times at local venues. Summer of 2014, Maralen headlined the “Hip Hop is Alive” tour performing at venues in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, & Tennessee. During this time she also traveled to Atlanta where she collaborated with a Face Mobb artist and a Dungeon Family Generation X artist on a track called “Celebration”. Maralen was also featured in 3 different Magazines MUVE , WLD, and Xclusive Magazine. Last year November, Maralen was given the opportunity to open up for Kaleigh Glanton from the popular show The Voice, at Rock Island Live in Wichita, Kansas.
Maralen and her husband moved back to Oklahoma in 2015. Since then has been performing 2-3 times a month at different venues. This summer, Maralen opened for many artist from out of state touring through Oklahoma such as Nikko McFadden from South Dakota, Lil Debbie from California and Taylor Zank from Indiana. Maralen also be performed at the Annual OKC Pride Festival for the second time.
A self-described “old soul”, Maralen is trying to bring back the true essence of Hip Hop. Her music contains substance and positivity which she feels is lacking in todays’ music. Her influences growing up were artists such as Big L, Rakim, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, Pete Rock and many more.
