Inspired by Dictionary of American Slang, Merican Slang, Albuquerque’s premier funk band, was established in April, 2011. Merican Slang is often described as experimental and unique; “Merican Slang’s music has been likened to the JBs and the Meters” (Local IQ Magazine). Merican Slang attracts a regional fan base which loves to dance and party until last call! “They’re a booty poppin’ party band” (Local Alibi).
Merican Slang celebrated the release of its debut album, “Livin’ in Merica,” recorded at Central Root Studios (Albuquerque, NM) to critical acclaim on the 4th of July, 2015, at the world famous Low Spirits Bar & Stage (Albuquerque, NM). “Fulsomely funky and featuring the alto sax vibrations of Romeo Alonzo, Merican Slang makes music inclusive of a variety of red, white and blue genres, with special attention paid to jazz, hip-hop and southern fried boogie; guitarist/lead vocalist James Haynes partakes in tones that range from ecstatic to enigmatic, while the rhythm section - built from the prodigious talents of drummer Ricardo Sanchez and bassist Dave Pankuch – put a hefty punch into the proceedings.” (August March, Local Alibi)
Merican Slang employs a full-time publicity team committed to implementing successful promotion campaigns in their booked venues’ surrounding areas.
