For Robert Gillies, music is not just a full-time career; it’s his life’s work and legacy in the making. Classically trained since the age of five, Robert has been playing music for years, but only started songwriting at the age of 20. Realizing that he had a gift to share with the world he set out from his small hometown in Scotland for Boston, MA where he earned a degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music. There, he learned how to blend the foundation of his classical training with his love of American pop rock.
Robert’s music reflects a sincerity driven by an earnest search for the positive in life, the desire to connect to those around him, and a certain sensitivity behind the well-crafted lyrics and solid musicianship. As he has recently landed on the West Coast of the United States, delving deeper into the heart of Americana music, his songwriting continues to transform while he learns to let his heart hang out on his sleeve.
In 2011, Robert Gillies released his debut EP, “Astronaut”, which gained him international recognition from various songwriting awards. Success continued as, later in the year, he had the honor of opening for pop sensation, Andy Grammer. In 2012, Robert shared the stage with fellow songwriter, Charlie Puth, on the popular television talk show “Ellen” for co-writing the YouTube hit, “Break Again”. In 2013, Robert will be debuting his latest collection of songs and kicking off his first trans-Atlantic tour by returning to the United Kingdom and, for the first time, sharing his gift with his home country of Scotland making it even more meaningful.
