So here goes: (ahem)
Ajay blames his grandmother for his becoming a musician. At 4 years old, she gave him a transistor radio and he'd lay in bed at night listening to DJ "Cousin Brucie" on WNEW, hearing the latest pop songs. His father used to recall him running around strumming a broom singing "Can't buy me love" while still in kindergarten. But it all hit home when in the 3rd grade, he saw his first live band. They played "Hanky Panky"...and the rest is history. He just knew right then he just HAD to be in a band.
Initially playing drums, AJ switched to guitar because his family "had one laying around" teaching himself how to play by ear he learned songs by Neil Young, ZZ Top, and BTO. He was in his first "band" at 14, butafter getting a job and thus funds for better instruments, by 18 AJ was in an all original band Up for Grabz. In and out of cover bands following UFG, at 26 he formed Doctor Slaughter, a out and out heavy metal original group playing the Sunset Strip in Hollywood all around Southern California. At 30, he moved to Southern Oregon and played in local bands such as Hard Promise, and also Stages. But raising a family took his work life on the road and he had to set music aside. Moving back to Hollywood, he was given a Flying V and the bug bit yet again. Now finally back in OR for good, AJ enjoys playing all types of music, just loving to see people enjoying it and having a good time rockin' out.
