"During a typical lifespan, a human spends a total of about 6 years dreaming, which is about two hours each night. Most dreams last only 5 to 20 minutes. It is unknown where in the brain dreams originate, if there is a single origin for dreams, if multiple portions of the brain are involved, or what the purpose of dreaming is for the body or mind."
6 Year Rewind is an American Folk Rock band that was formed in Orange County, CA in 2012. The founding members were songwriters Bryan and Brendan Schwarz
Phil Gephardt joined the band on lead guitar after Brian LaRuffa decided to take a break from music for a while to focus on his family. Both Mat and Phil had been in a couple of Bryan and Brendan's first bands in the early 2000's, and had continued with other projects until re-uniting a few years ago.
Songwriters Bryan Josef Schwarz and Brendan Robert Schwarz held odd jobs throughout San Clemente, CA, after moving from Seattle, WA in September 2001. They began teaching themselves guitar and after each writing a handful of songs, the brothers would play for anyone that would listen. After a few years of playing house parties and on the streets of OC beach communities as a duo, and then with fellow musicians, they decided to start a band.
One of their first gigs was at a local restaurant in San Clemente California and featured a few acoustic guitars and a conga drum. This would be the first live show the brothers would play in public. These early shows consisted of a few original songs mixed in with some covers of Oasis and Dave Matthews Band. After gaining some interest from some other local musicians, they started a band called Cloud Nine, and played shows at well know dives like Hougie Bar Michaels and some other local venues in Orange County.
In 2005 Bryan and Brendan relocated near Chicago, IL and continued to hone their craft in a suburban town outside the city. They continued writing songs throughout at 2 year vagabond mission only to find themselves back in Orange County, CA. After finding a new drummer, Garth Washburn of Arizona's Cover Fire, they began booking shows as Dripping Fiction, with Brendan's wife Christie sharing lead vocals, on the songs they have written.
Phil Gephardt joined the band and Mat Mula even stood in as their Bass guitarist at times. They played venues like House of Blues in Los Angeles and the famous Viper Room. They also played a number of house parties until eventually the band dissolved due to inner conflict about the creative direction of the group. Throughout this time the brothers never stopped writing and never stopped wanting to simply, have a band.
Between 2007 and 2010, Bryan played a few duo gigs with Lar Couso on conga and vocals, at OC Tavern in San Clemente; and the brothers both performed at local Santa Ana hot spots like the Gypsy Den for open mic nights. After all this time there was still a yearning to have a band of their own and record the songs they have written over the years.
One of the first recording was Brendan's Blue Sky Rain in a garage by a local producer, never to be released. Another early recording was Bryan's Father Said to Son with a vocal comparison to Monster's and Men. These would never be released but Blue can be heard at live shows from time to time.
After searching for a drummer on Craigslist in Orange County, Bryan stumbled upon a friend of lead guitarist Brian LaRuffa who had a band previously with Bassist Peter Wilt and a girlfriend of Curtis the drummer. They did mostly covers but the band eventually broke up. Bryan had convinced Brendan to come out to a session where LaRuffa had agreed to show up.
No one was convinced the drummer had the chops to continue so the venture ended quickly. Bryan and Brian kept in touch and after working on the single Drop Me in the Water, Brendan began to take notice. Bryan posted an add in Craigslist for a drummer, Brian LaRuffa new a bass player, Peter Wilt, and after months of practicing in Brendan's Lake Forest garage, the band was on its way. With close to 100 original songs between the brothers, the band was busy picking out the ones that spoke to them. Bryan, Brendan, Brian, and Jamie practiced away as Peter was reluctant to spend time with the band.
As they honed their skills Peter began to take notice. The first 6 Year Rewind show was a trio of Bryan, Brendan, and Brian at house party in Huntington Beach, CA. There, the three were recognized for heart felt lyrics and melodic sounds that did not go unnoticed. Still it was difficult to get the talented Peter Wilt on bass to join the band so the next performance was at the House of Blues Anaheim without Peter.
LaRuffa had convinced Peter that with his contribution the band's sound would be completed and he agreed to spend time rehearsing. After a few sessions things finally clicked for the band. They began getting booked at The Gaslamp in Long Beach, The Surfin Cowboy in Capistrano Beach, Hurricanes in Huntington Beach, The Copper Door in Santa Ana, and other Orange County Venues. The band decided it was time to record and went into the studio to record an unofficial release. Out of those sessions came Drop Me in the Water, Don't Fail Me Now, Counting Stars, and Daughter; all crowd favorites. Although there is no official release for these, Between Life and Dreams seems to be a fitting title for what's to come.
6 Year Rewind is poised to please the masses with their upbeat poignant lyrics and sound. This band's sound is so hard to pin down which is part of its appeal. They recently added Warren Huang on Saxophone who completes their sound, which transitions from Rock, Folk Rock, Reggae, and Ska, They recently hit the studio and recorded three new tracks.
