The original Deceptors started several moons ago, actually in the garage of a member of the Tates Creek High School dance band Little Dee and The Starlighters. Hanging around Dee Preston’s garage, fixing and hot-rodding their cars, they spent enough time jamming on old songs and playing around with new ones that a band was born.
The current Deceptors, with the “Famous” tag added, tongue firmly in cheek, as it is with some of their music, features the founder’s brother on guitar and three close members who have known each other for years. Originally a 60’s cover band, we currently rearrange, mash together and interpret songs from six decades of rock, blues and pop music, with a little roadhouse country thrown in.
The current lineup of Famous Deceptors has been together eight years, but some of us have played together much longer. We specialize in musical surprises and spontaneous dancing. All we need is a cover to keep the rain off, a couple of 120 volt outlets, a bit of a dance floor and we’re ready to entertain.
We believe we're the longest continuously playing semi-professional garage band in the Kentucky Bluegrass / Bourbon Country, with well over a century of total performance years between us. We're musical mutts with a nice bite and plenty of spicy twists to chew on, or better yet, to dance to.
