Dust & Bone / Bio

Dust & Bone: Emotion reduced to powder & transformed to sound.
Dust: From Middle English dust, doust, from Old English dust, dūst (“dust, dried earth reduced to powder; other dry material reduced to powder”)
Bone: Sound transduction — bones are important in the mechanical aspect of overshadowed hearing.

Dust & Bone started as a casual meeting in 1988 between Bill Mueller and Stewart Love to play some guitar. For the past 25+ years Stewart and Bill have been writing, producing and performing as NativSun.

In the end of 2011 Bill met Mike Parker at the birthday jam of a mutual friend where Bill sat in on bass with Mike when he did his set.
Bill liked the original tunes Mike was playing and a couple of weeks later introduced him to Stewart. The three spent the next two months working on arrangements of Mike's songs.
Then in early Spring 2012, Bill hosted a jam at his house with several musician friends. One was his guitar playing friend Ross Amstey. Another was Drummer Eric Metzgar.
These five guys started getting together on a weekly basis and in mid May 2013 released their debut album "Good Heart".

Mike Parker: Vocals and Guitar
Parker writes, records and performs his own original americana,-folk-rock. His songs tell stories of loss, hope, love and the myth of the american dream. Parker left behind the cover band cycle several years ago in order to focus on his own music and is excited to have found a venue to do this with Dust&Bone.

Stewart Love: Lead Guitar and Vocals
Stewart has a passion for “Guitars”. Collecting & enjoying the stringed instrument for their sound & feel.
Although the foundation of his style is based in Rock and Blues, he draws from the influences of a very broad range of performers and music categories for his song writing and performance.
Stewart's song lyrics weave the continuing tales of his life’s journey. In performance, his guitar becomes an extension of his mind, heart and soul to express what words alone cannot.
Stewart's musical experience and his incredible ear enable him to mix the various sounds into an appealing aural experience in performance and studio.

Bill Mueller: Bass, Mandolin, Steel, Guitars, Vocals
Bill's musical style evolved from solid folk roots (John Prine, Dylan, etc) to Country Rock, Americana and Blues. He has played in several cover bands in a 30+ year career both in his native Syracuse,NY and adopted home of Rochester.
Additionally, Bill leverages his Engineering background into the recording studio where he engineered, mixed and mastered Dust&Bone's debut CD "Good Heart".

Eric Metzgar: Drums
Eric is the "Kid" in the band but has a wealth of experience already. A graduate of the Eastman School of Musix, Eric plays not only with a slew of Eastman bands but many gigging bands which have played not only in Rochester but Boston and NYC (Carnegie Hall).

Past Members:

Ross Amstey
Ross was a huge part of the early days of Dust & Bone. He decided in the end of 2015 to move onto other musical adventures. We wish him all the best.

John Strubel
John is Dust & Bone's #1 go to backup drummer and has sat in with the group on several occasions. John is an in demand on call "hired gun."

Dan Williams
Danny goes back years with Stewart and Bill. He's not only a fine guitar/bass player, but has a love and talent for setting up guitars. If you need a less than perfect guitar turned into a great instrument, Dan is your guy.
