Born in 1959,in Asheville NC
Philip Jeffrey Turner ,was destined for the entertainment world.At the age of five,he was singing old time gospel music in the church with his mom and choir..at Mt Olive Baptist Church.At the age of ten he and his classmates at Marion elementary school,won the state square dancing competition ,from there,nothing could stop him.Almost immediately his teachers knew they had a character in the class.
since then he went on to write compose,sing and play in every state in the southeast .From 1976-1979 he served in the United States Navy,after receiving a honorable discharge,he immediately started playing music again,since then he has had his songs recorded by several artist,At this point in time he has written over a 100 songs,many which are recorded in the library of congress.In 1993 he was invited to Branson Missouri,where he performed live weekly at Rosebuds Restaurant,he and his brother Tracy Trent,formerly of the Blackwood Quartet,and Glen Cable,started the show called the Skillett Lickkers and the Songwriter Review,which within four weeks was reservations only attendance,
while in the Branson area, he recorded songs at the Jamie Haggee recording studio,
In 1999,Jeff went to Tallahassee Florida,there he and his uncle,John R Drake,recorded an eleven song album,most of which is set with Hammond organ,and many other brass type instruments..this album is titled,Hey I Know That Guy,,which immediately had overwhelming success,,his uncle John had played during the big band era,and performed at the famous Grove Park Inn,in Asheville N C,with the Bob Gill Orchestra .
In the year 2000,upon invitation,he performed in Pigeon Forge,Tennessee as one of three house acts at the
Oldies Showplace Dinner Theatre,where he entertained packed houses weekly.While in Tennessee,he met many fine musicians,retired pickers from the area,together they compiled an album of Jeff's country music,titled "The Flame That Never Dies",a mix of heart felt music.
After a few years sabbatical,Jeff joined a local public access television station in Asheville nc.called....URTV,it and he were immediate local successes ,by his self,he produced,directed,and starred in his own show .titled The Jeff Turner Variety Show.
Besides his own music he ventured into comedy,satire,discussion forums,and many other skits ,one especially loved by the viewers was his live call in segment of the show,with a local audience estimated near 40,000 every week,his show was also simulcast on the internet with many viewers calling in from overseas.
Jeff also ran for a local elected office,and won,the job as soil and water supervisor for Buncombe county nc,he received 19,405 votes,and didn't raise a penny to do it,he served from 2006-2010,he ran for re-election,he received 22,551 votes ,again without raising money.
Since then,he completed his service,and at the same time,completed three years producing his show,ending up with over 130 hours of live programming.
Currently,Jeff is at it again ,starting a website for his music,and videos,at this time he resides in his home town of Asheville,and is planning on returning to the stage very soon.
