The Bedlam Brothers are an Austin, Texas based three-piece Southern Rock band, with influences ranging from Delta blues to classic rock and roll. Their sound is a mosaic of the best of 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s rock and roll, all packaged with driving rhythms, memorable guitar riffs, and infectious melodies. Though they are young in age, their sound and live shows evoke feelings of classic bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, while blending in modern sensibilities such as Foo Fighters and The Black Keys.
The Bedlam Brothers may have made their debut to the world in March of 2012, but singer/guitarist Nick Santa Maria and bassist Craig McLaughlin have been playing together since they were 15, cutting their teeth at a young age in the clubs in their hometown of Dallas, Texas. Having been composing songs since he was 14 (and thankfully improving significantly since then), Nick Santa Maria is a committed full-time musician, so much so that he left College after three and a half years to focus solely on music. Similarly, Craig McLaughlin has played bass since he was 13, and left photography school to pursue music with Santa Maria. After playing with a myriad of drummers who were unable to match Santa Maria and McLaughlin’s dedication, The Brothers found a permanent drummer in John Flores, a fellow Austin transplant, who’s powerful drumming style rounded out the full rock and roll sound that Santa Maria & McLaughlin had envisioned in the beginning of the band.
After recording an 7-song demo in Santa Maria’s apartment, the band set out to play every venue they could, hitting every dive, bar, coffee house or club that would have them, initially playing up to five times a week, and on more than one occasion, multiple venues in one night, as well as venturing into other cities in Texas. Through mutual connections, The Bedlam Brothers caught the attention of Jason Roth, Director of Artist Management at Gorilla Music, and has been working with him since October 2012. Roth has previously worked with such national artists as Deadmau5, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Zac Brown Band, and many others at the William Morris Agency. Under Roth’s direction, the band focused on high quality shows rather than a high quantity of shows, and the need to produce a radio-ready release.
In late November 2012, The Bedlam Brothers began working with producer Alex Lyons at The Bubble Studios in Austin, TX, where many national acts have recorded, such as Jet, Gary Clark Jr., Hanson, The Toadies, and many others. The band completed the six-song “Saddle Up” EP just before the new year, the fully mastered version of which was completed in mid-January 2013, and is available now. The Bedlam Brothers, armed with their new release, are currently preparing for shows throughout Texas and surrounding states, including showcase appearances at the 2013 South By South West festival in Austin, TX.
