Duane Timlin was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was first introduced to the drums by Andy Crownover at the age of four while attending his father’s band rehearsals. The drums caught Duane’s attention and intrigue immediately. Therefore, Duane began to watch, work, and learn from the likes of many. While progressing quickly Duane began lessons with John Rutka and entered into his drum contests.
Duane, being told that he had practically mastered the drums by middle school from his school’s teachers proposed that it would be best to instruct him in the knowledge of other instruments. Duane made the All-State (milwaukee, Wi) band and Medalled several times on the trumpet. The knowledge of both instruments, and several others drastically helped shape and develop Duane as a musician. It was in high school that he used his knowledge, skill, and dedication to his musical craft to form different types of bands with his classmates and close friends.
Shortly after high school Duane made the decision to seek out more focused, dedicated, and music minded individuals. Duane joined his first semi-pro band Chicago's Sarcophagus. Duane recorded his first recording "Requim to the Death of Passion" which gained him instant global attention from the fans of Metal and international Metal media. With the band re-focused and with Duane as their drummer, they traveled and performed several shows and festivals throughout Canada and the U.S. After many tours the members of Sacrophagus decided that it was best that they all parted ways and began to work on separate projects. It was at this time that Duane recorded several albums with Judas Iscariot, toured with Chicago’s local legends Broken Hope, and recorded and toured with Forest Of Impaled.
Because of these accomplishment's, Duane quickly gained recognition as being one of the strongest and most prolific extreme Metal drummers. Duane was introduced to Jason Blachowicz and then moved to Florida after receiving the gig for Divine Empire. Drumming for Divine Empire meant that Duane was sitting in the former drum throne of the legends Derrick Roddy and Alex Marquez.
With this acknowledgement and now proven testament to his skills and dedication, Duane’s career blasted upwards as he spent the next five years recording two albums and touring the world in support of bands like Testament, Vader, Kataklysm, Misery Index, Benediction, Master, Dying Fetus, Skinless, Beyond the Embrace. During this time Duane also started working with Minneapolis's Anal Blast doing several tours in support of Goat Whore, Malevolent Creation, Cephalic Carnage. Divine Empire also headlined many of their own shows and tours. Throughout this time Duane also went back and forth from Florida and Wisconsin to do paying studio session work for several different bands.
When Divine Empire collapsed Duane then joined Dying Fetus. While in Dying Fetus, Duane recorded the legendary death metal album "War of Attrition" as well as a video for the song "Homicidal Retribution" which has 3.6 million views on Youtube. While in Dying Fetus Duane did several headlining tours throughout the entire world which spanned all continents.
Duane parted ways with Dying Fetus after the “War of Attrition” album and its supporting tours. He has continued to stay busy touring with old tour mates in Covenance throughout the U.S. and Eternal Ruin in Europe. He has done studio sessions with Reign of Vengeance (Phoenix), Criminal Element (Md),and toured with Chicago’s Nachtmystium in the states. Currently Duane is an active drummer for Crowned Beheaded (Houston, Tx) Consumned (Houston, Tx), Narcotic Wasteland (featuring Dallas Toler Wade from Nile) , and Saetith (Missouri) Illustrate the End (Houston, Tx) and the newly reformed Never Again(Minneapolis, Mn) as well as a slew of session projects with players from all over the U.S., England, Egypt, and South America.
Duane has built his own recording studio and therefore has the capability to record drums for bands around the world. Duane is also potentially available for tour offers and is willing to again tour any continent in the world.
Duane is also available for drum clinics and works closely with Sickdrummer.com as well as Devils Workshop Custom Drums. He teaches drums and is willing to take on new, but dedicated students.
