Gregory Williams is a jovial and multitalented musically competent singer and song writer. Born March in St. Elizabeth, Williams was the first child in a relatively big family. After moving to St. James he attended Granville All Age School and began exploring his musical talents which were recognized in church. There he became a member of the children’s choir, and played various instruments. His selection of hobbies supported his musical interests, which included writing songs, listening to different types of music especially classical and playing an acoustic guitar. These activities introduced him to his favorite musical icons such as Sam Cooke and Garnet Silk. As a young man he was always encouraged to enter competitions and turn his talent into a career by persons who heard him and were impressed by his vocal abilities.
His first competitive performance was in the 1995, Tastee Talent Show. This was followed by Star Search at Trax and Digicel Rising Star in 2005. The latter resulted in his inclusion in the top ten finalists from Montego Bay. He later formed a five member group in 1997 called True Tradition Family which had their debut on Sting. He began solo recordings in 1997 with a single entitled “Take Up Thy Rod”. Since then he has done many other recordings but received audio visual exposure in the Lauren Hill and Bob Marley Remix of “Turn Your Lights Down Low”. Needing more control of his creative talents he started his own label entitled “Capture Land Records”. From his new venture emerged the hit single “Oh My”. Memorable performances were done at Fallow Di Arrow, Reggae In Di Valley and Kite Festival.
He has an online presence through social networks and has appeared in main stream media on numerous occasions. His latest single “Wonderful World” (a cover of Sam Cooke’s original) has received measured support and heavy rotation on local radio. He is currently working on an album and making plans towards touring. He thoroughly enjoys making music and finds a way in incorporate it in his other trades, specifically masonry.
