Timothy Brinkman / Bio

Blending modern rock, folk, and soul, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist TIMOTHY BRINKMAN creates a sound all his own. His self-titled debut album showcases his songwriting with twelve original tunes that deftly combine radiant melodies with bittersweet harmonies and deeply personal lyrics that deal with the realities of heartbreak and loss while always coming back to the hope and glory of God.
.
Born in a blizzard (literally) and raised in the snowy Twin Cities, Timothy got his musical start on drums at five years old, then later taught himself percussion, guitar, keys, bass, mandolin, banjo, vibraphone, harmonica and many other instruments.
.
He brings all these instrumental skills and more to his new album as he creates layers and soundscapes with his do-it-yourself ethos, playing all the instruments on many tracks while a few friends helped out on upright bass, violin, cello, trumpet, and pedal steel guitar on other songs. "This was a home recording," he explains, "and I wanted it to be simple, real, direct, and honest. We'd just get together at the house in the recording room and have fun."
.
Timothy also handled all the vocal duties, save for a duet with Hilary Watson on "Someday," a last-minute addition to the album. "Hilary was flying into town for a concert and I wrote a song a few days before her arrival," he recalls. "I've always been a big fan of her voice. She is a wonderful singer, very rich. What she brought to that track was phenomenal."
.
The deeply personal album contains songs about his daughter ("Do You Remember" and "Good Night My Love") as well "Miracle," which tells the story of his mother leading him to the Lord at the age of eight. The centerpiece of the album is the elegaic yet hopeful "Be Still and Know," a meditation on God's faithfulness even in the midst of the storm:
.
though the day may hold no peace
though the night may bring no rest
when I think of all You've done
I can say my life is blessed
.
Your love is greater than all of my fears
Your grace is leading me on
in times of trouble I remember Your words:
be still and know that I am God
be still and know that I am God
