Restricted Highways' officially began in November of 2011, but the nucleus of the band was formed about three years earlier as drummer Jake Stretch and guitarist Mike Saunders began to jam and write music together. With the addition of singer Alex Pickl, creativity really began to explode. Restricted Highways was born, and quickly began a rigorous practice schedule that not only included some carefully selected covers, but also was centered around writing and recording original material.
In the years that have followed, Restricted Highways has become a regular act at Pittsburgh venues such as Mr. Smalls, Club Diesel, The Smiling Moose, The Rex Theatre, Altar Bar, and other performance opportunities of the Pittsburgh music scene. When not performing live, the band has been hard at work recording. What started as recording at Jake's home studio morphed into the need for a more professional quality, and led to the recording of the band's first CD, Keep Your Thoughts to Yourself, at Red Caiman Studio.
Recently, the band has been fortunate to open for some nationally touring acts, including Sick Puppies and Honor Society. They look forward to expanding their fan base outside of the Pittsburgh area.
