Big Boi Hurt was born Harold Johnson on May 25 in Memphis, Tennessee. As a teenager he began to hang with the wrong people and got into trouble in Memphis and later in North Carolina. He tried to live a double life, the good kid that his family wanted and the Memphis thug that he saw in the streets. While in Memphis, Big Hurt developed his love of entrepreneurship thru opening Johnson Communications, a pager and cellular phone distribution company, and a small record label. This was when he was given the name Big Hurt for his determination, dedication, and methods to developing quality music. However, it would be years before the true meaning of this name would be realized.
At the age of 13, Big Hurt accepted salvation thru the blood of Jesus Christ in a small church in Memphis. He knew then that there was a purpose and calling on his life. Later he moved to North Carolina and found it hard to turn away from his past life. However, one positive thing that continued was his entrepreneurial spirit. Big Hurt co-opened the Great American Candy store is Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2003, Big Hurt stopped running from his spiritual calling and rededicated his life to Christ. He became exposed to a hip hop sound that combined the excitement of secular urban music with the soul saving message of gospel. He knew then that he had found is purpose. Big Hurt also realized that he was to be used to hurt the devil by winning souls for the kingdom of God, thus the real meaning of Big Hurt.
In 2006, Big Hurt started Blessed Entertainment. He was determined to ensure that the music that is produced on the Blessed Entertainment label is soul winning and soul keeping. Thru life experiences Big Hurt learned that it is easy to give your heart to the Lord, but hard to keep it there if the music that you enjoy does not fit your Christian life.
Today Big Boi Hurt continues to strengthen the soul winning abilities of Blessed Entertainment with the support of his family and the various artists on the label.
