Catrina “Gospeljazztress” Reese
The first of four siblings, Catrina Reese, with her angelic voice and musical talent, knew she was destined for the stage. At an early age her talent shone through with eagerness and validity at family events. She was introduced to the world of bright lights, studio recording, and professional singing when she began vocalizing back up for many groups at a young age. One experience, with Dorothy Norwood in 1988, opened up her magical gift of song even more. All these advantages led up to the formation of the musical group, New Generations in 1989. Under the direction of Gary and Belinda Jackson Ingram, the group became an opening act for Gospel’s legendary Shirley Caesar in Charlotte, NC.
Between the years of 2000-2004 she performed at many local events such as Pease Auditorium with Beverly Crawford and belted out the National Anthem at several sporting events such as the former Charlotte Hornets basketball game, CIAA tournament, Charlotte Knights pro baseball game, and Charlotte Checkers hockey game. She did not limit her talent to just sporting events, she also lended her voice to the Charlotte Choral Society and the Charlotte Singing Christmas tree. To round out 2004 she entered a 600-constestant talent audition for the “Gimme the Mike-Charlotte” sponsored by WSOC Channel 9 and won. This landed her the opportunity to open up for Yolanda Adams and Dettick Haddon at Charlotte’s Ovens Auditorium. This was just the beginning of her magnificent life.
As her story unfolded she only became more involved with her passion of singing by performing with the Charlotte Symphony in 2006 with the song “Daybreak for freedom-tribute to MLK Day” at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Theatre. This allowed her to be directed by Director, Conductor, and Professor Harry Davidson of the Duke Symphony Orchestra at Duke University. The Lord called her to become part of the praise team of Kingdom Dominion Ministries, Inc. and in 2008 opened for Vickie Winans in Columbia, SC alongside her brothers and sisters in Christ. In 2009, she became part of a live radio Christmas special in which she shared the star lit airways with Grammy winner Kathy Mattea, David Tang, and Vox in Asheville, NC at Biltmore Estates.
The years 2012-2014 have by far become her best years to date with even better to come. She was blessed to have traveled with the Samaritan’s Feet Missions to Cape Town South Africa, Guyana South America, and Burundi Africa in 2012. While in these countries she was able to minister in song to African President of Burundi and President Pierre Nkurunziza. Partnering with Belinda Jackson Coulter and Natychia Young, they were able to win The American Bible Challenge in which they gave the proceeds to Samaritan’s Feet. She decided to step it up a little and took on a two year musical production project by participating in the reenactment of Historic Brattonville where she portrayed a slave girl. She was also in “daughter of the King-The Musical” at Central Piedmont Community College. As she moved into 2014 she was voted as the Prayze Factor People’s Choice Award Best Jazz Solo Artist of the year and nominated for Urban Contemporary Solo Artist, Christian Contemporary Solo Artist of the year, and Praise and Worship Solo Artist of the year.
Catrina has written and produced three gospel albums as well as a book, “From the Heart”, and an EP “Love Letter to God.” She is also a licensed ordained Preacher, motivational speaker, author, conference and workshop facilitator, songwriter, publisher, and psalmist. Standing proudly by her side are her husband Carilius and their four children, Theodore, Keisha, Sarah, and Tiffany; daughter in law Katrina; son in law Reginald and five grandchildren, Anaiya, Theodore Jr, Reginald III, Isaiah, and Dorian.
Philippians 4:13 (AMP):
13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who [a]infuses inner strength into me; I am [b]self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].
