From the earliest time I can remember, I have written songs. It is in this way that I learned how to relate to the world. My desire to share these songs has led me into a life as a singer/songwriter and given me an opportunity to reach out further into the world.
Growing up in Mentor, Ohio with David Wilcox, we spent many hours developing songs together and nurturing a similar finger style guitar technique that continues to profoundly shape both of our music and songwriting.
During the late 1970's, Abby Linhart, the facilitator of River City Music, began presenting me to audiences around the country. During that period I opened for a band called Trapezoid, a wonder full hammered dulcimer, fiddle, mandolin, and bass ensemble that encouraged me to perform more. With them I shared concert stages with Sam Bush and New Grass Revival, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Norman and Nancy Blake, and an evening at Passim in Boston with Guy Van Duser and Billy Novick. In 1983, at the peak of the Kent State Folk Festival's history I performed on the mainstage and presented a songwriting workshop with Hazel Dickens and Alice Girard at the Claremont Festival in West Virginia
Growing up along Lake Erie near the Little Mountain, I have always been drawn toward large bodies of water and mountains. With that, I moved to Portland, Maine, forming the free jazz band “Big House” with guitarist Jeff Platz and drummer Mike Dank. The band was very popular in Portland and toured the east coast regularly. During this time I also played bass for a band called “Ghost Walks”, “David Robert's Crazy Moon Beam” and played drums in an all girl band called “The Brood”. As the 1980's came to a close I was active writing music and designing sound for theater and dance in Portland and New York City.
In 1990 I came home to Ohio and began recording a string a records on my own, including “For My Good Friends” in 1992 with violinist Steph Dlugon, and in 2005 performed all of the parts for another record on a Roland Guitar Synth.
In 2010, I contributed a recording to Charlie Mosbrook's “Coverage” CD who I had mentored and performed with when first returning to Ohio. Following that release, I teamed with Charlie to record my solo CD “Firefly Ballet” and the ensemble based production “Chasing the Muse”. The later featured many of northeast Ohio's best roots and traditional musicians including, Rachelle Brown, Jon Mosey, Hal Walker, and Bill Lestock. With these record gaining positive reactions throughout the region and being heard on radio around the globe I have been able to perform this music on many more stages including Cain Park, Euclid City Limits, and the Barking Spider.
