Kandis draws from her deep musical history and infuses her jazz, blues, gospel, and folk tones into a unique sound, breaking the barriers of "Christian Contemporary" into a genre all her own. Each song Kandis pens, a story emerges, whether it's from her own times of trial and triumph, or a journey into someone else's life. Whatever the perspective, the theme is always the same: Our God is a God of Grace, Faithfulness, and Abundance.
Raised in a musical family, Kandis discovered her love for music while sitting on her father's lap at the piano picking out tunes like Amazing Grace and Jesus Loves Me by ear. By the time she was five, she began piano lessons to help cultivate her musical talent into what, one day, would become her calling. Throughout her childhood and young adult years, Kandis performed every chance she had (even on the front porch harmonizing The Star Spangled Banner with her sister, DeAnne) to any neighbor who would listen!) and by the age of fifteen, she had become the choir director for her church choir. She remained very active in her church until leaving for Appalachian State University. As soon as Kandis received her BA in Creative Writing, she packed her car with her books, her guitar, and her kitty, Boo, and headed to Colorado where she would discover her love for music was not just a hobby, but her purpose. It only took five months before she landed in Nashville, Tennessee to try her hand at music. The following years were a time of hardship and struggle for Kandis where she strayed far from God's purposeful call. But the moment she and her husband, Petr, discovered they
were pregnant, her heart began to transform, and she laid down her Nashville dreams and moved to Durham, NC where she, Petr, and their two children, Eden and Zander, now reside.
