David Stone / Bio

David is a singer songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, born and raised in St Peter's Cape Breton. His songs range from ships and the sea, maritime history to songs about his home.

There are six groups of songs here - the first (12) are from the 2005 release Raise Your Voice - The next (16) are from a CD from 2001 with Roger Stone called "Stones on the Road" - recorded "live off the floor - very folksy and acoustic The next (13) from my latest CD "At Home" and the next group (12) from a re-issue of my first CD - The Journey, with Melanie Ross, Arnold Sampson, Doug Sampson, Ray Legere, Dwayne Cote among others. The next (10) are the songs from my Colours of Cape Breton CD of 2008. The next recording Destiny's Door 2003 are the last group (14).

From the new CD, At Home - Songs for the project range from redos from the early 1990s while living in Toronto, to the left over tracks from the last recording, the Colours of Cape Breton.

The twelve songs from the Journey were recorded between 1994 and 1999 around Halifax, Dartmouth and Truro NS, the initial focus of the recording was about immigration to Nova Scotia and CB from the British Isles, plus a few other songs of historical note added later - like the Promise - a song about the Acadian Expulsion performed by Melanie and Arnold here...

Colours of Cape Breton - I received a grant and went all out for a production through my friend Ryan Roberts at his studio in Wolfville NS. Bit of a different feel - gave him total control of the production. He brought in players from Texas and Nashville as well as local guys as well...

Destiny's Door began in Toronto about 1992 and finished ten years later in Halifax, featuring the vocals of my friend and bass player at the time Al Parrish. A definite nautical history theme to this group. Musicians include Dave MacIsaac, Ray Legere, Harold Davidson, Roger Stone, Tracey Dares, John Ferguson and others.
